Top 5 Reasons why Barrhead and Westlock area is great for young families.

Reason #5. Westlock and Barrhead are great towns to do business in.
Whether you are a business owner or working for someone else, customer relationships are a critical part of doing business (particularly in a small town). I have worked in both Barrhead and Westlock for 12 of the last 17 years and can say there is a great deal of customer loyalty and patience with respect to local business. There are individuals willing to help you promote your product/service expecting nothing in return, it is simply woven into the fabric of many people in this area.

Reason #4. Relaxed Lifestyle
People often talk about the “rat race” our culture has become, and this is very true even in small towns. That said, there is almost a tradition of holding on to that somewhat old fashion sense of hard work without living in panic mode 24/7 trying to get from one thing to the next.

Reason #3. Lower cost of living
Compared to Edmonton and the towns/communities surrounding it we can live significantly cheaper in Barrhead and Westlock area. Sure, we pay a little more in property tax (maybe), probably a bit more on groceries, but we also need to do way less driving, live in houses 30%-90% cheaper, lower rent, and best of all free parking anywhere in town!

Reason #2. Schools, emergency, recreation, and other community services.
There are several things that need to be factored here, class sizes, budget sizes, facility features, accessibility, and many more. Pembina Hills school division does a fantastic job on a tight budget to provide students with trade options, technology, community minded teachers, and safe schools. Waiting rooms are less congested, there is a good balance of specialization among physicians, and having a baby is a much more relaxing experience than the typical “city hospital”. Recreational facilities in Barrhead & Westlock are admittedly smaller, but there are also less people using them so you will find out pools, gyms, walking tracks, and splash parks much less crowded.

Reason #1. Community involvement and social aspect.
Barrhead and Westlock have a rich heritage of community involvement and volunteerism. This spills over to new members of the community, it takes effort to live in isolation here, and there is always something drawing people to interact with groups, events, and other locals. People here for the most part want to know your name, care about your well being, we want our kids to befriend your kids and vice versa. With the domination of texting and online social networking we have less human interaction, it takes extra effort these days to have face to face interaction but Barrhead and Westlock are filled with many young families looking to hang out and share life whether you grew up here or just moved in last month.
